Bear Waters, one of the top bounty hunters in the city of Northport, is in trouble.
He is in pursuit of a mad cultist whom the Sheriff's Guard has called the Silver Dirk, after the weapon he uses to attack - but never kill - his victims. After some consultation, he has deduced that the Silver Dirk is preparing for an ancient ritual intended to summon the Elder Gods, those ancient beings of horror from primordial days.
But in his pursuit, he - along with his friend and ally, Grace Hilltop of the Sheriff's Guard - has been transported to a world that we would find very familiar, but that they find amazing and unfamiliar.
Getting home is but one issue facing Waters and Hilltop. They have to get home before the Silver Dirk can succeed in his plan, threatening the well-being of more than one world.
In this opening volume of a new series blending fantasy, science fiction, and much more, Realm Hunter Pursuit of the Silver Dirk begins an exploration of Bear Waters' native world, one closely resembling our own, and several others in a stimulating adventure spanning multiple worlds - and multiple genres.

For the right reader, this is an awesome read. The story is well thought out and described, and the author does an excellent job of placing himself in the shoes of someone who has never experienced "our world;" that is, the dimension of our world that Bear Waters travels to, specifically to Portland, and to other dimensions as well. Bear's dimension could be described as somewhere between ours and a medieval Europe, where magic exists and is a part of everyday life. Bear himself is inquisitive and interested both in learning all he can about the different dimensions, and in finding and stopping the Silver Dirk. The other dimensions are interesting and sometimes even terrifying, and I applaud the author for his world-building.My only complaint comes in the amount of explanation and description at times (though to be fair, the same has been said famously of The Lord of the Rings trilogy). The author, like I said, does a great job of describing our world from an outsider's perspective; but at the same time, he goes a little too far in giving the reader descriptions of things that he or she (so long as the reader is from the U.S. I suppose) already knows. Many times, a run of several paragraphs could easily be replaced with "So-and-so explained the concept of X." The dialogue is sometimes tedious as well, in the same vein that a conversation could easily be summarized for the reader's sake rather than being completely written out.
Otherwise, this a great book, and I'd recommend it to fans of fantasy/supernatural and mysteries, and of movies like Journey to the Center of the Earth. Others have recommended it to fans of Dr. Who (which I still need to watch and read).

Bob Greenwade has created a compelling universe where we move from world to world in search of a master criminal.
Bear Waters accepts a job to solve the crime of the Silver Dirk. People have been hurt but what seems strange to Bear is that they are never killed. Still, blood is drawn which leads our intrepid investigator to believe that the mysterious silver dirk attacker is part of a sinister cult hell bent on summoning the Old Gods which doesn't just mean the end of one world but possibly the universe (or at least five worlds).
The story is imaginative and my only gripe was that there were quite a few discussions about what things were in `our' world. This shouldn't put you off however as it is a great read and cleverly written.
Fans of sci-fi might spot the red shirts and Dr Hoo references. I might be reading too much into it but they made me giggle appreciatively.
This book was a great read and I could have carried on reading when it reached the end. Fans of The Dresden Files will enjoy this but the similarities are only superficial. This is an original work which made me glad I set up the Fantasy Book Club for under $3 on Discussions.
I recommend this one!

Realm Hunter Pursuit of the Silver Dirk follows Bear Waters, a bounty hunter in a different realm. He is hired by a victim of the Silver Dirk to hunt him down and stop him from hurting more people. This journey has consequences that he could never have imagined. Bear and constable Grace Hilltop find the base of operations for the Silver Dirk and unknowingly activate a device that transports them to modern day Portland, OR. In Portland they meet Fiona a scientist that is studying the society of their realm.
This story is told from Bear's perspective and it is interesting to see how he reacts to the large technological differences between the two lands. People from both realms are teaming up to find and stop the Silver Dirk who is actually the head doctor on the project that created the devices to teleport between realms.
The story is strong, but this book ends in a cliffhanger. This book stood apart for its unique aspects which are probably not for everyone, but I thought it worked very well for what Bob was trying to do. I will be reading book 2 when it comes out for sure.
Realm Hunter Pursuit of the Silver Dirk is one of the most interesting books I've read in awhile. It is a blend of science fiction and fantasy, with even a little mysterious twist. The book is told from the perspective of Bear Waters, a bounty hunter in a world where Ghoul's Room and lycanthrope's are vulnerable to silver. Before long, we come to realize that Bear's world isn't the only world out there. There are others, one of them being our own, and they are all similar in different ways. The Silver Dirk is a man that is believed to come from "our" world, World One, a doctor named Eric Bennadict. He is committing various crimes on World Two, which lead Bear to finding out about the different realms that exist.
We follow Bear on his pursuit of the Silver Dirk, which takes him to various worlds and to encounters of dinosaurs and different people. All the while, he and his friends are trying to figure out just what the Silver Dirk's motives are.
I really enjoyed Bear as a character, and despite the fact that he said he often rambled in retellings, the ramblings were a bit much at the beginning. This made the book hard to get through no matter how interested I was in the story. It took me a little longer to read than I would have liked, but it was definitely worth finishing. The story really picked up at the end for me and I really can't wait to read the second one and find out what happens next!
